There’s no such thing as…

There is no such thing as “supposed to be.”
There might be how it used to be.
There is also how we think it could or should be.
“Supposed to be” really means how we want it to be. And yet, wanting won’t make it so.
We crave certainty but unfortunately that’s not how life works. Which means you’re faced with a choice…
Do you ignore that the only certainty is uncertainty? Get stuck on just how unfair that might be? On how you can do everything right and it still might not go your way?
Or…
Can you learn to accept that life's only constant is uncertainty? And can you recognize that accepting life's uncertainty does not mean giving up?
In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Because once you accept life's uncertainty, you can turn your attention to the antidote…
Intentionally building as much flexibility and optionality into your life as possible.
We’ll never have full control over what happens in our lives but we always control how we respond to whatever life throws at us.
The more flexibility and optionality you can build into your life, the greater sense of autonomy you’ll begin to feel in how you choose to respond to life’s uncertainties. And that’s the best way I know to establish a sense of control over your life while navigating an always uncertain world.
