Is your ‘check engine light’ on?

We talked here recently about how we can get better at accepting life’s many uncertainties by remembering we control our reaction – or lack thereof – to those uncertainties. However, I glossed over a key part of that process…

Being anxious around life’s many uncertainties is both expected and normal – even when you know there’s nothing you can do to avoid those feelings.

My recent conversations tell me a lot of personal ‘check engine lights’ are illuminated right now. Whether it’s our current political turmoil and/or recent market fluctuations, a lot of people – justifiably so! – seem to be especially on edge right now.

And while ignoring the noise might still be your best course of action, that doesn’t mean you should ignore how you’re feeling.

Ignoring how you feel can be a slippery slope. It’s how you end up making an emotionally driven decision – one that relieves your short term anxiety but could come at the expense of your long term well being.

Ignore the noise, NOT how you feel.

In other words, don’t drive around with your personal check engine light on. If that’s how you’re feeling right now, let’s talk about it.

Our conversation will help you process your feelings so you can decide what adjustments work for you both short and long term. And even if no changes need to be made, you’ll feel much better knowing that “ignoring the noise” remains your best course of action.

Don’t be afraid to reach out. I’m here to listen and help whenever you need me.
