The enemy that lies within

We can be our own worst enemies when it comes to our financial lives. But if we only focus on what we’re doing wrong, we end up skipping over the why behind our actions (or lack thereof).

And to figure out why, we need to look no further than the enemy that lies within…

Our own internal monologue.

Could you imagine talking to a friend or family member with the same level of negativity and disgust we often reserve for ourselves? Probably not. And yet, we accept this approach as standard operating procedure!

While it’s not feasible to rid our inner monologue of all negative thoughts, we can work on extending ourselves the same kindness and empathy we would extend to others. The more we practice positivity, empathy, and forgiveness with ourselves, the more we start to realize we’re capable of dealing with any issue we encounter – financial or otherwise.

Another benefit of building a positive mindset is that the actions necessary to fix our financial issues not only become clear, but they also become easier to act on. And when the actions you perform are in alignment with what you value most, their effects start to compound and dramatically improve your financial well-being.

So before you get back to work on your financial life, take a minute to check in on your inner monologue. Remember, you don’t have to let negative self talk get in the way of living your best life.
