One simple way to get back on track
It happens to all of us.
Our best intentions suddenly fall by the wayside and we find ourselves off track.
Cue up a nice little shame spiral combined with looking for a scapegoat and, ultimately, wondering WHY this happened. Again.
But what if we decided to skip over that rabbit hole of despair?
What if, instead, we started by accepting that 99% of the time the reason we find ourselves off track boils down to…
Life happens
Things change
We’re all flawed individuals trying our best
When we can wrap our heads around that answer, the next step becomes simple.
We just need to start again.
Now this might seem obvious — but it’s also obvious to me that it’s something we all tend to discount and forget.
For example, with the temperature dropping, I’ve stopped taking my daily walks. Not on purpose. It just sort of… happened. And I find myself feeling guilty, blaming the weather, and trying to map out a new walk schedule based on the upcoming forecast.
But what do I really need to do?
Put on my shoes and winter gear and go take a walk.
Starting again helps us remember that the only step that really matters is the next one.
Need to start saving more?
Don’t fixate on the amount – focus on starting up the automated monthly transfer again.
Need to rein in your spending?
Skip the full budget – start by pulling up a credit card statement to see where it’s all going.
Need help aligning your values & priorities with your money?
Start again by scheduling a time to talk about it.
So as your life happens and things change, remember that you can always start again. It’s the best tool and one that’s fully within your control for navigating whatever life happens to throw your way.
